Summary on Grant Application Form
It is proposed to use a novel approach to making gravimetric measurements in such a way that simultaneaous catalytic and electrocatalytic information can be obtained. The gravimetric device relies on sensing the change in the natural frequency of a quartz tube that houses the catalyst sample of variable mass (the technique was recently developed for use as part of the NASA space programme). Such equipment will allow a wide range of in-situ gravimetric experiments to be performed. One particular advantage is that, for the first time a working electrochemical cell can be studied gravimetrcally. Proposed experiments will be useful for catalytic work as well as electrocatalytic work for solid oxide fuel cell research.
