Summary on Grant Application Form
The disadvantages of present techniques for reducing 2nd-order quadrupolar interactions in the solie-state NMR of I>0.5 nuclei can be removed by a new 2D technique. The 1st dimension is shift, and the second is the time evolution of a multiple-quantum coherence. By suitable manipulation these can render the quadrupolar lineshape orthogonal to the shift scale, with enhanced shift resolution. Successful development of this technique would greatly extend the applicability of NMR to eg. zeolites, polyoxometallates and metal-oxide based catalysts. An essential spectrometer upgrade is sought.Key Words: Physics, Chemistry, Materials, NMR, Solids, New Technique.
