High-speed digital video imaging and motion analysis will be used to investigate the impact breakage behaviour and flow patterns of solids, the latter in a number of processes such as fluidisation.The development of theoretical models of these complex proccesses has to be supported by experimental observations. Examples are the fracture patterns of particles on impact, and the flow patterns of solids in the jetting region of fluidised beds, where the current models need to be verified.The above facility will provide a powerful tool for the observation of particle behaviour. The images obtained by the above facility can be transferred to our automatic image processing and analysis system [Optimas System] for a quantitative analysis. The results will be used to verify the models of the processes under investigation.
