Summary on Grant Application Form
Agile manufacturing represents a new manufacturings paradigm aimed at achieving rapid responsiveness through the integration of technology, organisation and people. This project will take the form of a scoping study investigating the role of agile manufacturing in the UK aerospace industry. The project aims to establish a common view of agile manufacturing within the aerospace sector, and to identify an approach towards its implementation through the identification of pathways and obstacles. The relationship between agile manufacturing and new technology introduction will be investigated as a case study. Specific recommendations will be made for areas of further research and pilot studies relating to the various aspects of manufacturing agility which are likely to have a beneficial impact on the responsiveness, competitiveness and profitability of the aerospace sector.
