Summary on Grant Application Form
Laser combustion diagnostics will be developed and used to validate the combustion modelling in the Oxford SI engine simulation, via measurements of; temperature, OH and NO concentration. In addition to comprehensive optical access, the research engine will require: snatch sampling, and absolute cylinder pressure measuring system and fast acting surface thermocouples. The surface temperature measurements will enable the instantaneous heat flux to be deduced, thereby providing heat transfer data for a contemporary combustion system, and data for the validation of CFD modelling.
