In the area of combustion modelling, there are a number of issues which need further research and improvements. Among them the accurate description of turbulence and radiation interaction and the effect of radiation fluctuations on combustion has received very little attention and further research is required to improve modelling capabilities. This proposal is to develop a model for turbulence/radiation fluctuations in combustion. This proposal is to develop a model for turbulence/radiation fluctuations in combustion. the model is to be based on the discrete transfer method of thermal radiation and a pdf approach is proposed to include fluctuations due to turbulence. Research will also be carried out to incorporate accurate property calculation algorithms and work will be undertaken to develop modelling capabilities to account for turbulence effects on radiative properties. The overall strategy will be implemented in a general combustion procedure and evaluated against experimental evidence. Through numerical calculations the work will attempt to quantify the effects of turbulence/radiation on combustion. Inclusion of turbulence/radiation effects in combustion models will improve the predictive capabilities of particulate and NOx calculation models.
