Summary on Grant Application Form
Novel aspects of hydrodynamics and thermal-diffuse instability recently revealed shown the importance of studies in self fragmentation of premixed flames. The project aims at a theoretical study of these phenomena by means of numerical and analytical methods applied to flame models found to be effective. The following problems associated with the recently observed phenomena will be studied: pattern formation through cracks, dynamics of self fragmentation in near-limit thermal-diffusively unstable flames, flame fragmentation in a periodic flow field, stability of flames with complex kinetics. The ranges of the parameters for which the effects referred to, and similar effects, are exhibited and appropriate criteria for which such effects exist will be addressed. The results obtained will be of interest for the fundamentals of combustion.
