Summary on Grant Application Form
The research is planned as part of a continuation of John Bells programme bringing the foundations of quantum mechanics back into contact with laboratory equipment. The investigators primary quantum state diffusion theory (1) is an alternative quantum theory in which quantum dynamics, classical dynamics and the dynamics of the measurement process are derived from the same Ito stochastic equations.A new paper (2) provides the framework for a theory in which a fluctuating, space-time structure is responsible for both the gravitational field and quantum state diffusion. The completion of this theory requires the unification of the principles of general relativity with the principles of primary state diffusion. The method of research is to work from the principles to the equations, as illustrated in both (1) and (2).Part 1 of proposed research: to complete the general space-time theory of the diffusion of quantum states. Part 2 of the proposed research is concerned with a simplified theory of the experiments.
