Summary on Grant Application Form
We have recently established a rational design strategy for production of oligomeric peptides which, in either aqueous or appropriate non-aqueous solvents, self-assemble into elongated polymeric beta-tapes. We now want to explore the use of peptides to generate a hierarchy of responsive, self-assembled polymeric superstructures. This will involve a study of the structural, thermodynamic and kinetic factors governing peptide self-assembly. Control by templates and optical and chemical triggers (pH and metal ion co-ordination) will be investigated.
