Summary on Grant Application Form
New aspects relating to the fundamental properties of layered metal phosphonate materials will be investigated via a multidisciplinary experimental approach. Specific areas of investigation will encompass: (a) construction of new solid architectures by design of the phosphonate component; (b) development of chiral materials leading to studies of host-guest chiral recognition; (c) elucidation of the dynamic properties of guest molecules; (d) development of materials of NLO applications. Structural characterisation of the materials prepared in this research will exploit new methodology that we are developing for crystal structure determination from powder diffraction data.
