|
We propose to gain experience in and critically evaluate the Image Understanding Environment (IUE) as part of the Integrated Machine Vision Programme. The ability of IUE to handle 3D and 4D datasets encountered in medical applications will be assessed. We will contribute to the extension of the IUE to medical applications. We will compare IUE with the attributes of our own in house C++ class. Existing suites of image registration and matching software will be adapted to conform to the standards of IUE. We will test and document the result and compare it with previous implementations. We will propose modifications and enhancements to the IUE core for medical image processing and in particular we will incorporate I/O support for DICOM and other commonly used disk file formats.
