Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal seeks to establish electrostatic force microscopy (efm) as a quantitative measurement technique for the study of insualting materials used in electrical engineering. It will acquire unique information on the relative permittiviy, surface potential and surface and sub-surface charge distributions and their dynamics at submicron scale. A theoretical model will be established and validated to enable measurements and images to be interpreted and further experimental work will examine surface and space charge distributions; the latter will be correlated with measurements obtained by the electro-acoustic pulse mehod recently established at Kings College London.
