Summary on Grant Application Form
The profound solvent power of carbon dioxide in the supercritical (and in the liquid) state will be explored with regard to the potential added value of organic synthesis in this medium. The scope of the following classes of reactions will be investigated: 1) 1, 3-Dipolar cycloaddition reactions; 2) Transition metal-catalysed oxidations with dioxygen; 3) Oxidation reactions with hydrogen peroxide and derivatives; 4) Mukaiyama Lewis acid-catalysed aldol and Michael reactions; 5) Metathesis and ring closing reactions. Asymmetric synthesis will feature heavily in the studies.
