Summary on Grant Application Form
The Cranfield component of trhis collaborative study with the University of Ulster will focus on the numerical simulation of the combusiton of enclosure linings in real enclosure fire conditions, in parallel and integrated with the experimental programme at Ulster. The a study will employ the spatially resolved CFD predictions of temperature and wall heat flux as input to phenomenological models describing lining ignition and subsequent combustion. Simulations of both full scale, end use, scenarios and the medium scale prototype rig to be developed by Ulster will be accomplished. The computations will be performed with SOFIE, a CFD code specifically developed for room firew simulation, which incorporates models for fire source description and detailed prediction of thermal radiation.
