Summary on Grant Application Form
The principal aim of this ROPA project is to investigate the feasibility of applying air-jet technology in devising a novel method for producing selftwist yarns. The work will focus on the design and construction of novel compressed-air, reversible Z and S twisting jets, the main deliverable being a proof-of-concept apparatus that will demonstrate the spinning of selftwist yarns of improved mechanical properties. It is envisaged that the results of the work will lead to a subsequent LINK project. The potential benefits of such a spinning system would be higher production speeds, lower maintenance and associated cost, and greatly enhanced flexibility to meet the demands of UK yarn manufacturers.
