Summary on Grant Application Form
It is proposed to use a thermodynamically controlled transesterification process to generate new porphyrin-based catalytic receptors. A strong template-porphyrin interaction will impose an overall geometry on the potential host, and it will not be necessary to predict which will be the best capping group: a mixed library of hydroxyesters will be employed, and the best cap may possess two or more of these components; any incorrect structures will simply be proof read and recycled in the reaction mixtures. The approach could be extended to sensors or effluent scrubbers.
