Summary on Grant Application Form
Some new, tri- and bidentate 2-pyridine-arylthioilate or thioether ligands with N2S or NS donor sets and variable steric requirements will be synthesised. Their chemistry with Fe, Mo, W and Re hydrido-precursors will be investigated to prepare new sulphur-ligated hydrides capable of reaction with small molecules and catalysis. The Rh(I), Ir(I) and Pt(II) chemistry will also be explored and catalytic activity for carbonylation, hydrosilylation and hydroformylation assessed. Aromatic thiols with chiral substituents will be deployed for enantioselective catalysis. Zn(II) and Cu(I) complexes of chiral pyridine thiolates will be studied as catalysts for the enantioselective 1-4 addition of Grignards to cyclohexenone.
