Summary on Grant Application Form
The main objective of this project is to develop multigrid strategies coupled with adaptive techniques on arbitary unstructured meshes arising in the FE simulation of large scale 3-D nonlinear solid mechanics problems. Particular attention will be paid to the class of higly ill-conditioned problems typical for metal forming processes, where both geometrical and material non-linearities are present, together with complex contact and friction boundary conditions, and where the adaptive evolution of FE meshes, necessitated by gross geometry changes, represents a natural computational environment. Appraisal of the efficiency and robustness of multigrid solutions on a range of industrially relevant problems containing in excess of 100,000 d.o.f will be performed.
