Summary on Grant Application Form
The main objective is to exploit quantum particle nanocomposite materials for use in luminescent applications. The primary objective is to make electroluminescent (EL) structures which can be driven with either d.c or a.c. Important secondary goals are to make efficient cathodoluminescent (CL) layers which can be excited by low energy electrons and hence would find application in field emission displays and photoluminescent (PL) layers for gas discharge excitation which could give backlighting for LCD displays. The nanocomposite materials will comprise semiconductor particles (<20nm) embedded in various organic and inorganic polymers, such that they can be applied by simple standard production methods, e.g. spin or dip coating and spray or menscus coating. Traditional phosphor materials will also be investigated using modern colloidal technology.
