Summary on Grant Application Form
The essence of the proposal is to fabricate an optical device with the ability to sense, by remote control, changes in atmospheric concentrations of pollutants. Particularly important are organic (of petrol-natural gas origin) pollutants such as toluene and methane as well as SO2, CO2 and NO2. The novel science of the proposal lies in the chemistry of the sensor, the physics involved in transforming chemical changes at the molecular level into processable signals, and the electrical engineering in processing sensor signals and imaging of the surfaces of the sensor films.
