Summary on Grant Application Form
It is proposed to synthesise new moisture tolerant chiral Lewis acid catalysts of the type [M(-ansa-Cp)Lx] n+ where the nature of the reaction site(s) L is (are) well defined, x= 1, 2 or 3, where M is a transition metal and ansa-Cp is a chiral chelating bis(substituted cyclopentadienyl) ligand linked with a chiral ferrocenyl bridging group. The effectiveness of these well defined Lewis acids to control enantioselective C-C bond formation reactions such as Diels-Alder, aldol and ene reactions will be tested and the catalysts modified so that they effect such reactions with high enantioselectivity.
