Summary on Grant Application Form
We have developed methods for preparing a wide range of large cyclic esters and ether-esters and propose to obtain sharp fractions and individual cyclic compounds using the latest preparative gel permeation chromatographic equipment. The large cyclics will be investigated in detail for potential applications. They will be used to prepare high molar mass polymers by ring-opening polymerisations as well as in the preparation of topological polymers. The complexing properties of the cyclic ether-esters with metallic ions will be studied and the use of the cyclics as plasticizers explored.
