Software and hardware components for chaotic optical data encryption are to be developed. The principal elements of the software effort are: (I) implementation of an advanced transmitter receiver synchronisation algorithm and (II) software controllers for targeting chaotic dynamics.Hardware development will involve: (I) fabrication of a laser diode chaos generator and (II) electric control circuitry The proposed technique is suitable for any application where secure transmission of large volumes of data is required. The techniques particularly suited to free-space optical communications systems which may be utilised in such diverse contexts as computer interconnections, wireless intra-office communications and satellite to satellite communications.
