Summary on Grant Application Form
A good fibre-matrix adhesion test is required for progress in correlating composite mechanical properties with an interfacial parameter. the modified plasticity effect model will be compared to the energy model of Wagner, for the evaluation and quantification of the interface and/or interphase. Careful examination of the failure processes in a non-saturation fragmentation test will enable the stress transfer process to be described exactly and modelled as an imperfect interface. The model will be expanded to take into account the overlapping spheres of influence of adjacent fibres and in this way, composite properties and the interfacial stress transfer process correlated.
