Summary on Grant Application Form
The possibility to reduce scale formation on the electrical heaters of household appliances by modification of the metal surfaces is investigated. Ion beam implantation will be used as a first instance, to generate low surface energy heat transfer surfaces, which should experience less adhesion of deposits. If successful, this technology would reduce the concentration of scale inhibitors required in detergents and increase the life span of immersion heaters.
