Summary on Grant Application Form
Re-alkalisation and chloride removal are electrochemical techniques for rehabilitating corrosion damaged reinforced concrete, which re-establish alkalinity, passivating the steel, and reduce the chloride content. There are concerns about the increased risk of alkali-silica reaction in susceptible concrete and this collaborative research aims to provide a database of information in support of a model for the behaviour. Experimental investigations of the expansive behaviour under a range of conditions will be supported by analytical data on the composition of pore solutions. The work will lead to a database of information to raise the confidence of clients and specifiers and aid development of standards.
