Summary on Grant Application Form
The strategic goal of this research programme is to give effective support to the engineering of flexible and robust real-time systems across a wide spectrum of application domains. The objectives are to develop and demonstrate a portfolio of techniques which will allow:1. Various forms of software and hardware fault tolerance to be integrated.2. The use of optional components, with stochastic properties, to increase overall system utility and quality of service.3. The incorporation of systems with non-deterministic resource requirements such as those containing AI components, and4. The mixing of safety critical and non safety critical applications on the same computing infra-structure.Robustness necessitates run-time decision making which is commensurate with safety critical timing requirements.
