Summary on Grant Application Form
The new technique of micro-EDM has a tremendous potential for fabricating microengineering components. However, research is required to obtain better products than can be obtained under standard operating conditions. The research will concentrate on the use of micro-EDM to machine smooth-walled apertures into sheet metal as quickly as possible without compromising the precision of the aperture and the repeatability of its positioning. The research will entail investigations of the role if the dielectric, preliminary roughing, sue of multi-electrodes, quantitative evaluations of machining accuracy and modifications to hardware to improve it.
