Summary on Grant Application Form
The overall objective of the propject is to enhance the application of petrophysics in reservoir description by allowing for the influence of anisotropic in-situ stress states on rock property calibration, interpretation, correlation and upscaling. The integration of recent developments in rock testing technology and network modelling made at Heriot-Watt makes these objectives achievable. The properties of reservoir core investigated will be permeability, compressibility, resistivity, sonic velocities and mechanical moduli. Furthermore, it is highly likely that the new testing technology will also enable the orientation of the horizontal in-situ stresses to be routinely determined using core plugs. The magnitudes of these stresses may possibly also be determined. The deliverables from the project will serve the emerging new generation of stress-sensitive reservoir simulators.
