Summary on Grant Application Form
The primary aim of this research is to work in parallel with user demands of the collaborator at the ORC, Southampton University, thus to develop novel, rare earth doped chalcogenide glasses for active fibreoptic applications in the near to mid-infrared. The research will focus on enabling fruition of : (I) an improved 1.3mm fibre amplifier; (ii) new fibre lasers/amplifiers at 1 - 1.6mm for telecoms and, (iii) efficient/compact laser or fluorescent sources for flammable/toxic gas sensing.
