Summary on Grant Application Form
A range of imidazol-2-ylidenes, including a variety of chiral structures will be prepared. Their pKa values will be determined and their reactivity as bases in promoting carbonyl group and elimination reactions will be investigated, including their reactivity as nucleophiles and the enantioselectivities of chiral examples in a range of demanding situations. The preparation of other diaminocarbenes will be sought and the redox chemistry of these species will be studied.Possible synthetic routes to imidazol-2-ylidenes and dihydroimidazol-2-ylidenes through cycloaddition reactions from carbodimides will be sought.
