Summary on Grant Application Form
Network analysis and critical path methods have become accepted construction management tools. Experience has shown, however, that they are inappropriate for design management because of its ill-defined and iterative nature. Design managers now need equivalent tools to help them plan, manage change and integrate their role with the client, contractor and other parties. This project aims to develop computer based methods which can deliver improvements in multi-disciplinary detailed building design; more specifically the techniques, which are based on recent successful research, will enable design and construction requirement to be integrated during planning and detailed design stages. The work will involve: defining each disciplines design tasks and information dependencies; assembling and verifying the design model; writing prototype planning and programme software; testing and validating the software on current building projects; and disseminating the findings.
