Summary on Grant Application Form
It is proposed to study for the first time the atomic dynamics, above and below the glass transition temperature, of a strong network-forming glass-forming liquid (As2S3) using neutron and light scattering and dielectric spectroscopy. In addition, the glass-transition dynamics of materials with varying degrees of fragility, resulting from alloying with Ge or I, will be studied to provide a link with existing results on polymers and ionic systems. Such results will provide critical tests for various theories (mode-coupling, vibration-relaxation) of the glass transition.
