Summary on Grant Application Form
This application is for the UK national Chemical Database Service (CDS) for the four year period 1/4/97 to 31/3/01. This service provides essential support to the UK academic chemistry research community. Access is provided to a range of databases covering the following four chemistry disciplines Crystallography and Structural databases; Synthetic organic chemistry databases; Spectroscopy databases and Physical chemistry databases. Users are also supported by three post-doctoral chemists. There are just over 2000 users at present and there is clear evidence that Chemistry Departments holding EPSRC grants are benefiting from the service. The total cost for providing this service over the next four is 1,185K, of which 546K was committed for the final two years of the current four year rolling grant. The total cost averages out at about 148 per user per annum even assuming zero growth from the current user base.
