Summary on Grant Application Form
The research is founded on extensive industry collaboration, on an earlier EPSRC grant, and on recent T3D pump priming resources for CFD and nuclear criticality methods development, An adaptive, parallel FEM domain decomposition solution method will be developed for large scale unstructured meshes; research will include parallel adaptive re-meshing for unstructure conforming meshes; a method for optimally partioning (in parallel) into subdomains and optimally allocating subdomains to processors. A hierarchial parallel DDM solution method will be developed, based on a multi-grid approach, for linear and non linear problems. The application of the method will be demonstrated to a range of industry-relevant complex generic problems; stratified flows in reactor gas coolant, molten glass flows/heat fluxes in waste vitrification, transient criticality in nuclear chemical plant and complex geometry radiation transport.
