To fully achieve the benefits of a multi-media communication, the system must be integrated with the utilities customer billing, distribution network control and energy management database systems. Efficient integration of these systems are impossible without the design and development of the robust multimedia communication system tolerant to the noise and disturbances of the LVEDN. It is intended for the proposed research programme to develop, implement and test over real LVEDN such a system, based on the concept of multi-functional coding, recently introduced by the investigator. The main emphasis will be placed on ensuring that the designed system possess all the required features and allows information transmission with the highest reliability and reasonable cost.
