Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to carry out a program of high energy electron energy loss spectroscopic study of magnetic thin films, multilayers, heterogeneous alloy films in cross-sections geometry. Because of the availability of subnanometer electron probe in a dedicated scanning transmission electron microscope, we can obtain information about the composition and electronic structure of the interfaces and spacer layers in near atomic details, especially in the growth direction. From such study, we aim at gaining insight into magnetic moment enhancement, local spin-orbital coupling and its anisotropy, quantum well structures of spacer layers, factors affecting many novel magnetic behaviours of these films.
