Summary on Grant Application Form
There are various statistical issues in shape analysis and image analysis related to shape change and image warping which we propose to investigate. An inherent property of objects is that they can be observed as meaningful entities only over certain ranges of scale. Therefore, a multiscale representation of the data is of crucial importance. This proposal develops these ideas through multi-scale methods for shape change and image warping for 2D and 3D images. With the increasingly routine use of image capture equipment in science and technology, the proposed work is of great significance. The main beneficiaries will be other researchers working in areas of image analysis, shape analysis and spatial statistics. Our collaborators come from three areas (industry, defence research and biomathematical research) indicating the usefulness and commercial potential of the work. Also, our active involvement in the Centre of Medical Imaging Research (CoMIR) in the University of Leeds widens the area of benefit of any results.
