Summary on Grant Application Form
The research proposes to develop high permitivity, low loss ceramic dielectrics for use in microwave systems. These ceramics are the key components of dielectrics in communications filters. The research will survey existing materials and use processing technology to minimise the extrinsic losses. New composition will be investigated to improve performance further. The cryogenic use of ceramic dielectrics will be studied as this area has shown promise. It will also allow the integration of high temperature superconducting components to further enhance performance. The improved performance will allow microwave communications systems, such as mobile telephones, to deal with the rapid growth they are experiencing. It will also have an impact on new technologies such as high definition TV and VSAT for transportation projects and anti-collision devices.
