Summary on Grant Application Form
In order to improve its competitive performance, the construction industry needs to reduce costs, increase productivity and shorten construction times. It must do this without compromising product quality thus ensuring value for money for the consumer over the whole life cycle of the product. In recent years, manufacturing industry, faced with similar problems, has learned that technology-push alone cannot solve these problems. What is needed is a change in business culture and the creation of an improved business infrastructure which will allow technological innovation to flourish and satisfy the need of the customer. The proposed research project examines the relevance of methodologies that have proved successful in improving performance in manufacturing to those in constuction and vice versa.
