Summary on Grant Application Form
The soft impressor method will be used to measure the fatigue resistance of bulk ceramic materials, in normal atmospheres and also when immersed in seawater, to determine the limiting mean contact pressure required to initiate fracture under these conditions. These measurements will be modelled by FEA and correlated with conventional fatigue data - principally for alumina and selected zirconias.
