Summary on Grant Application Form
Pulverised fuel ash (pfa) and natural pozzolans have the potential for greater utilisation but there is insufficient fundamental knowledge regarding how they affect the long-term properties of concrete. The hydration kinetics, microstructure, and composition of the hydrates resulting from mixes of OPC-pozzolan will be studied, and in particular, whether there is a universal structure-composition relationship for the main binding phases - C-S-H gels - in cementitous calcium aluminosilicates.
