Summary on Grant Application Form
The life of EHV tranformers on the 400kV transmission system is limited by thermal degradation of the oil-impregnated paper insulation, or by the effects of partial discharges from a defect. These can both be detected using laboratory techniques, but the project seeks to establish novel procedures by which they could be diagnosed on-line using rugged and compact equipment.
