Summary on Grant Application Form
Biological models adapt to the environemnt via local rules which govern birth, death and division of organic cells. Such rules can be employed in an engineering way to create structural topology using celullar automata. By considering generic elements such as simple beams to certain loading conditions, a study of how such strucures will 'adapt' and create new shapes using the birth and death rules will be carried out.
