Summary on Grant Application Form |
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in combination with image analysis techniques will be used to characterise heterogeneities in voidage within packed beds of particles, and to investigate the influence of this pore structure on transport porcesses within such systems. The initial phase of the project will investigate methods of visualising and analysing the structure of the interparticle space within different packed beds. MRI flow images of both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids moving through the bed will then be obtained. The effect of pore space on the transport of multiphase liquids will also be considered.
