Summary on Grant Application Form
To investigate the mechanisms and growth of fatigue cracks and fracture under mode I, mode II and mixed mode conditions in model slab (dissimilar alloy) composites and unidirectionally reinforced continuous fibre composites of very low fibre volume fraction. Titanium based alloys and intermetallics will be addressed. The study will be underpinned by numerical modelling and will provide fundamental understanding of the growth of cracks in non-uniform stress fields.
