Summary on Grant Application Form
A combined experimental and finite element investigation will be carried out on YT tubular joints. The results of these tests and calculations will be used to develop a macro-flow rule which will allow the displacements (and rotations) of the braces (relative to the chord) to be raletd to the load path (combination of forces and moments on each of the braces). Hence a single element ( in a finite element analysis) can be used to represent the behaviour of the joint. Massive reductions in the computer storage space and run times will result and more accurate solutions will be obtained using this method.
