Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed work builds from highly successful programmes of research into (i) the behaviour of sea bed sediments and (ii) numerical geomechanics to consider two new areas of considerable current industrial interest: submarine landslides and 'bucket' foundations. The intended synthesis of advanced Hollow Cylinder Apparatus (HCA) experiments into soil anisotropy and brittleness, with state-of-the-art soil modelling and numerical methods requires a highly qualified Research Assistant. This application is made early because of the need to secure a work permit for the key research worker, Ms Zdravkovic, who has considerable experience with HCA experiments and shows great promise in theoretical research. Ms Zdravkovic will be assisted by a research engineer seconded from Taisei Corporation, Japan.
