Summary on Grant Application Form
The development and investigation of a new generation of tunable, compact, all-solid-state CW OPOS that are pumped directly by semiconductor laser diodes. The major components of the programme are:1. The development of the semiconductor laser pump source. This will be achieved through the technique of injection-locking where single-longitudinal-mode and near-diffraction-limited output beams at greater than 1 W will be made available at 800 nm.2. The use of the injection-locked laser diode to pump a doubly-resonant oscillator (DRO) based on degenerate type 1 LBO. Investigation of tuning characteristics and output stabilisation of this DRO and demonstration of single-mode-pair generation and smooth tuning in the device. Extension of operation of DRO to non-degenerate type I and type II LBO.3. The development of a high-power injection-locked semiconductor pump laser at up to 4 W power level in a single-axial-mode and near-diffraction-limited output beam.4. The demonstration of a pump-enhanced singly-resonant oscillator (SRO) based on type II LBO and pumped by the high-power injection-locked laser diode.
