Summary on Grant Application Form
Type III semiconductor systems, such as GaSb/InAs represents an important, if somewhat neglected, area of semiconductor physics. In these cases the bottom of the conduction band of one system lies below the top of the valence band of the other. This proposal is aimed at providing a self-consistent theoretical description of the electronic structure of such systems. By so doing we aim to provide the theoretical backup to the experimental effort based at Imperial and Oxford, while exploring the novel physics of these systems will suggest new directions for further theoretical and experimental work.
